Reviews by Cindy Buntin
Do you know what the Bible really says about Heaven? Do you ever think
about what Heaven will be like? Do you know without a doubt you will be going
to Heaven when you die? This book by Randy Alcorn addresses these
questions and so many more. He takes us on a journey through the Bible and
what it has to say about Heaven. He points out that Heaven is not a topic often
preached about, nor is it the subject of most Bible studies. Yet, he believes it is
essential for us to set our minds on Heaven, because it will change the way we
live on this earth. He says “thinking of Heaven leads inevitably to pursuing
holiness.” Read full review
How is your prayer life? Do you enjoy intimacy with God? Do you ever feel like
you don’t know how to talk with God? Do you sometimes use prayer to try to
get what you want from God? Or, do you seek an intimate relationship with Him,
one that desires to know Him more?
There have been many books written on prayer, but this short book cuts
straight to the heart of prayer. It uses the example Jesus gave in Matthew 6:9-
13 when His disciples asked Him how they should pray. Read full review

Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream
by David Platt, Multnomah Books, May 4, 2010
Does your life look different than those around you who don’t know Christ? Do
you feel like your life lacks purpose and significance? Do you want to make a
difference in the world, but have no idea where to start or what to do? Do you
feel there should be more to the Christian faith than attending church every
Sunday?
David Platt’s Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream
addresses the church today in America. When he became a pastor of a mega
church in Alabama, he became uneasy with the way the church operates
today. He compared it to Jesus’ ministry on earth and the beginning of the
church. He says that while Jesus drew big crowds, at the end of the day, there
were twelve men left who followed Him. It seems that Jesus wasn’t interested in
marketing Himself to the masses as we are today. Read full review

We're in unanimous agreement

The Culturally Savvy Christian
by Dick Staub, Jossey-Bass Publisher, 2007
The Culturally Savvy Christian takes a look at our American culture today and
how Christians relate to it. The author says that we choose one of three ways
to deal with our culture: 1) we withdraw from it, 2) do combat with it, or 3) or
build an imitative parallel culture.
The author believes that the church in America today, instead of changing our
culture, has created a parallel culture that mimics it with a Christian version of
everything that already exists in pop culture - Christian music, Christian
movies, Christian schools, Christian artists, Christian books, Read full review
The Gift in You
by Caroline Leaf, Thomas Nelson Publisher, 2009
The Gift in You takes a look at our minds and how they work. The author, Dr.
Caroline Leaf, says God has given each of us a special gift of intelligence that
is uniquely different from anyone else’s. She defines success as “living out
God’s purpose for your life - using the gifting He has given you.”
To live out our purpose in life effectively, we need to understand how God has
designed us and our gift. Dr. Leaf presents seven pillars which make up our
intelligence. Read full review
God’s War on Terror
By Walid Shoebat with Joel Richardson, Top Executive Media Publishing 2008
Have you wondered what the Islam faith is all about? Do you like to study end
times prophecy? If so, this book is a must-read. The author, Walid Shoebat,
grew up in Bethlehem. His father was a Muslim and his mother a Christian from
America, who was held against her will for thirty-five years by her husband.
Walid became an Islamic terrorist, making bombs for the PLO, until God
revealed the truth to him and changed his life. As a born-again Christian,
Walid wants to educate the world about the truth of Islam. Read full review.
Captivating
By John and Stasi Eldredge, Thomas Nelson Publishing 2005, 2010
If you only have time to read one book this year, Captivating would be my
recommendation. The language in this book is beautiful. Flowing like poetry,
even though it is not written in a poetic style, it is a book about the heart of
women and the fulfillment of our deepest desires.
The husband and wife co-authors take the reader back to the beginning of
creation, after God created Adam. God said something was missing,
something was not good. That something was Eve. Woman. Femininity. Man
was not complete until God created Eve. They explain that “God endows
Woman with certain qualities that are essential to relationships, qualities that
speak of God. Tender and inviting, intimate and alluring, fiercely devoted.”
